Design Trends: Seasonal Colors

Bringing the colors of the season into your home is a trend that never seems to go out of vogue. Whether it’s warm autumn hues, winter whites and jewel tones, spring brights, or airy summer colors, it’s easy to incorporate the season into your design. If you start with a neutral palate of furniture, woods, and walls, swapping out pillows, throws, rugs, and even curtain is a quick and less costly way to give your space a new look.

Pinteresting Five: Creative Kitchen Design

Whether you like to cook or not, people spend a lot of time in their kitchens. This week, we rounded up some of our favorite unique kitchen designs. While we wouldn’t necessarily recommend making a huge change like this if you’re planning to sell your home in the future, it’s fun to see how some people have made this heavy-traffic space even lovelier. Or if you don’t mind taking the time and money to “neutralize” your kitchen before selling, get inspired!

The restaurant’s owner Terryl Gavre, also writes monthly columns and dining reviews for Ranch and Coast and San Diego Metropolitan, both local magazines.

The interior is bright and colorful, evocative of your cozy, childhood kitchen. They even have adorable chandeliers made from coffee cups and spoons.

Note: they do not serve regular bacon at Cafe 222. They serve turkey bacon and other breakfast sides like ham, sausage, and even spam.

Come early and be prepared to wait a bit, especially if you have a large party. They are a small establishment with a small kitchen, but they make up for it with friendliness and hospitality.

On their website, they even have video tutorials and printable recipes for some of your favorite dishes, so you can recreate them at home! http://www.cafe222.com/recipes.html

Design Trends: Lucite Furniture

Design trends are known for hopping industries. Lucite first emerged in the fashion world several years ago, about the same time it started showing up in home design. Today, it’s still going strong in modern homes, facilitating clean minimalist design. It also shows up in eclectic spaces. If you like the look of lucite, but aren’t ready to invest in a large piece of furniture, lamps or other small items work equally well.

On Thursday, September 12th, Schaffer Dental Excellence will be hosting an office open house celebration from 4-6pm. The official San Diego Coastal Chamber Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place at 4pm, with festivities to follow.

Enjoy food and drink while entering to win great raffle prizes such as a: 1-hr Zoom In Office Whitening, a Sonicare Toothbrush, Free Exam, X-Ray, and Cleaning.

As the Schaffers have two children that attend Sage Canyon Elementary, for every new patient that registers, they will be donating $25 to the school’s PTA.

Additionally, they are offering a complimentary whitening treatment for every new patient.

Dr. Robert Schaffer, DDS, received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University, before going on to earn his Degree in Dentistry (DDS) from New York University. He was also commissioned as a Naval Officer and later spent time as a Senior Dental Officer in Afghanistan with the Marines during Operation Enduring Freedom. He has also worked as a general dentist at MCRD San Diego, providing dental care to active-duty Marines, Sailors, and Marine recruits. Additionally, he is a member of several professional organizations including ADA, San Diego County Dental, and California Dental Association, among others. On certain Saturdays, Dr. Schaffer also volunteers by giving free dental care to homeless vets and other homeless people in San Diego.

CPP Tip of the Month: September

Contemplating a change of scenery for the fall? If you’re looking to change up the color of your walls, keep these few things in mind:

-Light colors make a room seem larger, while dark colors can make it seem smaller. Reserve dark colors for adding interest or to bring out small details.

-Paint door frames and moldings the same color as the wall to make them blend in. Paint them a contrasting color to make them stand out.

-If you have an open floor-plan or rooms that connect, create unity by keeping the same color elements from room to room. For example, two rooms can be connected by the same accent color painted on the door frames.

-Don’t neglect the floor! The color and texture of your floors, be they stone, carpet, wood, or tile, can affect the overall feel of the room when it comes to color.

-Paint test squares on your wall, in the areas with the most light and least light, to get an idea of how the color will work with the natural light in your home. Live with it for a few days before settling down to do the big painting job.
