Peri-Peri is a South African restaurant with Portuguese influences tucked away in a shopping center in Torrey Highlands, off Camino Del Sur.
The decor is very nice and the whole place is quiet and clean. Even at dinner time, we had no problem getting a table and being served promptly.
For appetizer, we had the short rib which was very, very good if a little pricey for how small it was. It was more of a one-person appetizer, than for you two, but still delicious. Other starters that are worth a try are the prawn bisque and the prawns costa do sol.
For entrees we tried the boerewors and beef sosatie combo, which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. We also tried the lamb burger. Both entrees were quite good, especially the lamb burger, which didn’t carry the “muttonish” taste that lamb sometimes can. Their other notable entrees include the peri-peri shrimp, lamb shank, and natal curry.
They also have a dessert menu that includes ice cream.
Service was good and attentive.
A nice restaurant that is worth a try in Torrey Highlands, especially if you are in the mood for something a little different.
Laminate Flooring
Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring different types of flooring options for your home.
Laminate flooring has been gaining in popularity, especially as more and more brands are offering look-alike “hardwood floor” styles. These styles have all the look and color and shine of hardwood floors, without the cost and upkeep. Laminate flooring is an easy, inexpensive way to get the look of hardwood for less. It’s harder to scratch and damage, making it ideal for homes with pets, particularly large dogs, and children. Clean up is easy, just sweeping and mopping. It comes in a range of colors and styles, making it easy to incorporate into your home and complement your existing decor.

San Diego is known for its local farmers markets and great, fresh produce. Wherever you live, you’re sure to find one in or near your community. Additionally, many other vendors attend the farmer’s markets selling everything from cheese to bread to pastries and cookies to salsa, fresh juice, hummus, and more. Some vendors even come to sell jewelry, clothing, and other goods. Not only are the farmer’s markets a great way to get some delicious food, it’s also a chance to buy local and catch up with friends and family in the community. San Diego Farmer’s Markets happen year round.

San Diego has some of the best day hikes in southern California. Whether you prefer coastal breezes, mountainous terrain, or the raw beauty of the desert, it’s easy to find a hike that fits your preferences and skill level.
El Capitan Open Space: 14 miles roundtrip
This is a challenging hike with steep inclines and declines that lead you to beautiful panoramic views. The best time of the year for this hike is in the spring or late fall when temperatures are a bit cooler.
Torrey Pines State Reserve: 5.6 miles roundtrip
This is a moderate trail that leads to gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and is an amazing place to spot dolphins and whales. Any sunny day out of the year is great for this hike.
Cedar Creek Falls/The Devil’s Punchbowl: 5.2 miles roundtrip
Cedar Creek Falls is a challenging hike to a relaxing swimming hole. Bring lots of water, lunch, sunscreen, your swimsuit, and a $6 permit (good for up to 5 people) that you can buy online.
Lake Poway to Mt. Woodson: 8.6 miles roundtrip
This is a moderate hike that begins near the Poway dam and leads you up to the top of Mt. Woodson where you can see views spanning all of San Diego County from the famed Potato Chip rock. It’s best to go on cooler days or start early in the morning. You will also need to pay to park.
Sunset Cliffs: 3.7 miles roundtrip
Sunset Cliffs is an easy hike with breathtaking views and tons of wildlife. The best time to go is during the week because on the weekend it can get a little overcrowded.
Iron Mountain: 5.8 miles roundtrip
Iron Mountain is a moderate/challenging hike with beautiful scenery. This is another hike that is best done during the week to avoid crowds.
Cowles Mountain: 4.7 miles roundtrip
Cowles is a moderate, yet family and dog-friendly hike that leads to panoramic views from Tijuana to Camp Pendleton. This trail is very popular, but there are three different ways to approach the top to avoid the crowds.
North Lake Hodges: 14.8 miles roundtrip
This is an easy, but long trail that leads you to stunning views of the lake. This trail is horse and bike-friendly and can be enjoyed year-round!

As a design trend, styling homes using artifacts and replicas of Native American and southwestern items has always been a popular choice in the southwest and parts of the west. However, in recent years, this design trend has grown in popularity. Southern California has many spanish-style and adobe homes and if you take your decorating cues from your home’s exterior, the southwestern design trend might fit your home well. This design trend is most distinguished by its use of earthtone browns, reds, and turquoise blues, cow hide, “tribal” geometric patterns, woven blankets, and rustic wood furniture.
