New to the San Diego community, Mendocino Farms is quickly becoming a local favorite! Occupying the old space vacated by Carnitas Snack Shack at the Del Mar Highlands, Mendocino Farms offers a fresh and flavorful menu using local ingredients.
They are known for their sandwiches, though they also serve salads and even vegan options! Everything on the menu is filling and bursting with flavor, but we particularly enjoyed the Save Drake’s Farm Salad and the Steak BLT. They also offer weekly specials, so if you become a regular at Mendocino Farms, you’ll never get bored of the menu!
If you try to go to Mendocino Farms during lunchtime, be prepared to wait as this restaurant, like almost every eatery at the Highlands, gets quite busy during lunch. Luckily it’s located near the new parking garage so finding a spot is usually not difficult!
Mendocino Farms also has another location in La Jolla.
Just because you have a busy schedule doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful yard! You just might want to invest in some low maintenance landscaping options. If you’re in the North Park area and in the mood for unique drinks and tasty eats, you have to check out Communal Coffee. They call themselves a craft coffee company, but they also serve tea, lemonade, cold pressed juice, matcha, and more. Our favorite drinks on the menu are the Rose Vanilla Latte, the Sea Salt Caramel Latte, the Sparkling Lavender Lemonade (for those hot summer days), and the Lavender Honey Latte. If you’re hungry, we recommend the Avocado Toast, Lavender Honey Toast, or one of their sweets treats like the Blondie or an Ice Cream Sandwich.
The atmosphere is cheerful and hip – like visiting a carefully curated Instagram feed. In fact, Communal Coffee is practically made for Instagram. They have a collaboration with Native Poppy so the coffee shop is full of beautiful flower bouquets. They also sell fun gifts and cards so be sure to spend some time perusing their selection!
Parking is definitely limited. Like so much of North Park, it’s street parking early. So if you live within walking or biking distance, definitely leave your car at home. But Communal Coffee is definitely well worth the parking struggle!
