It may be only February, but the recent bout of gorgeous weather has us thinking spring! If you want to get a jump on your spring cleaning (remember, Easter is only a month away!), take a look at some of the helpful tips we’ve pinned below.

Recipe: Orzo and Vegetable Salad


What you need:

1 1/2 cups orzo (rice shaped pasta)

1 medium zucchini, quartered and thinly sliced

10 Kalamata (Greek) olives, pitted and sliced

4 scallions, thinly sliced

1 celery rib, thinly sliced

1 medium tomato, seeded and cubed

1 green or red bell pepper, seeded and finely diced

freshly ground black pepper

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1/3 cup minced fresh parsley

1/3 cup olive oil

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon minced fresh dill, or 1 teaspoon dried

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 cups (4oz.) crumbled feta cheese


Bring a large stockpot of water to a boil

Add the orzo and cook until tender but not mushy, 6 to 8 minutes

Drain in a colander and rinse under cold water

Drain again very thoroughly and place in a large bowl

Stir in the zucchini, olives, scallions, celery, tomato, bell pepper, and parsley

In a small bowl, beat together the olive oil, vinegar, garlic, oregano, dill, salt and pepper

Pour over the salad and ross to coat well

Sprinkle on the feta cheese and toss again

Spoon in the mayonnaise and gently toss to coat evenly

Chill at least 2 hours, then bring to room temperature before serving!

This salad can be stored in the refrigerator up to 8 hours before serving.

Although this trend has been making a comeback in the U.S. recently it has been a mainstay in Spanish, Italian, and Moroccan architecture, among others, for a very long time. This is an excellent way to add a bit of flair, individuality, and style to your home. You can make it as subtle, or not, as you want, but it usually looks best as an accent and can go pretty much anywhere, the stairs, bathroom, kitchen, pool, patio, or wherever else you can think of!

Recipe: Coca-Cola Chocolate Pan Cake


What you need: 

Ingredients for cake:

2 cups all purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup butter or margarine, cut up

1 cup Coca-Cola

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs, well beaten

Ingredients for Frosting:

1/2 cup butter or margarine, cut up

1/3 cup Coca-Cola

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 package (16 oz.) confectioners sugar


Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Grease a 13×9 inch glass baking dish

In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt

in a 2-quart saucepan, heat marshmallows, butter, cola and cocoa over medium high hear until bubbles form around edge of pan

Remove from heat; continue stirring until marshmallows melt

Pour marshmallow mixture over flour mixture; with wire whisk, stir until well combined.

Whisk in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla until blended

Pour batter into prepared pan

Bake 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes clean

Transfer to wire rack, and begin to prepare the frosting while cake cools

In 1-quart saucepan, heat butter, cola, and cocoa to boiling over medium high heat.

Remove saucepan from heat

Add vanilla and stir until butter melts

Place confectioners sugar in medium bowl

Pour hot butter mixture over sugar

Stir frosting well; spread over top of hot cake immediately after removing from oven.

Cool in pan on wire rack, serve, and enjoy!
