As we start looking ahead at some of the design trends for 2014, one trend we see beginning to crop up in a big way is the resurgence of handmade crafts in the home, particularly the lost arts of knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. Maybe you associate these types of fabrics with grandma’s house, but in 2014, they get a very modern reboot. Used sparingly, a thick, knit blanket or crocheted pillow can add the right amount of warmth and coziness to a room. Embroidered pillows in bold or sparkling threads capitalize on some of the trends we’ve seen in 2013 and elevate the pieces into this century. These fabrics are easy to incorporate by way of a pillow, rug, table runner, drapes, throw or blanket, and even as an ottoman cover.
