Restaurant of the Moment: Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and Grill

12925 El Camino Real

San Diego, CA 92130

o (1)

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and Grill serves up classic American and Italian-inspired pizzas and grilled entrees! Their menu is extensive, with options ranging from sandwiches and steaks to burgers and even tacos, but their specialty is their pizza. Every pizza is handcrafted with fresh and delicious ingredients and baked in a woodfire grill. Their pizzas are thin crust and crisped to perfection. Available toppings range from the classics like Pepperoni, Meat lovers, and Hawaiian to their own specialty concoctions.

Located on the upper level of the Del Mar Highlands, Sammy’s offer daily lunch specials, happy hour deals, and even a catering menu. If you are in the mood for high quality and fresh pizza, definitely stop by Sammy’s!

Food Truck of the Moment: Red Oven Pizza

It’s finally pizza night, but you’re feeling too lazy to drive all the way to your local spot for pick up and you don’t want to pay extra for delivery. What’s a pizza-lovin’ San Diegan to do? See where Red Oven Pizza’s food truck is at, of course!

Inspired by Napoletana and Alsatian pizzas originating from Italy, Red Oven Pizza uses only fresh ingredients, hand-crafted dough, and their own special Italian wood-fired oven. You can choose from their Napoletana menu options or opt for the classics: cheese, pepperoni, or meat lovers. They also have a small variety of sides such as salads or garlic breads.

Here’s a primer on Napoletana-style pizzas: the process starts with the ingredients, importing all the top shelf cheeses, prosciutto, flour, and oils from Naples so you can enjoy an authentic pizza as if you ordered it from a Napoli pizzeria! The end result is simply delicious, with the right combination of warm, melted cheese, soft baked crust, high quality vegetables and your choice of either homemade Marinara, Margherita, or Margherita Extra sauce.

So next pizza night, keep your eyes peeled for the Red Oven food truck!

Restaurant of The Moment: Pizza Port

135 N. Highway 101
Solana Beach, CA 92075

Pizza Port has made quite the name for itself over the years due to its homemade pizza and great craft beer. The atmosphere is noisy, but fun, and is a huge hit with families and friends due to its communal seating.

Our favorite craft beer has to be the Kook Double IPA, which we always pair with the Beer Buddies appetizer. “Beer Buddies” are bite-sized pieces of Pizza Port’s signature crust, brushed with garlic or cajun spice and served with ranch dressing or marinara sauce. Pro Tip: It is a game changer to add cheese to the Beer Buddies! You won’t be disappointed!

When it comes to the pizza at Pizza Port, we recommend going big. Our favorite pizza is the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza which consists of tangy BBQ sauce, seasoned meatballs, bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and red onions. But any pizza you get from this neighborhood favorite is sure to hit the spot!

In addition to their original Solana Beach Pizza Port location, there are also Pizza Ports in Ocean Beach, Carlsbad, and San Clemente.

Restaurant of the Moment: Best Pizza and Brew

Best Pizza and Brew

9172 Mira Mesa Blvd

San Diego, 92126

San Diego was recently voted one of the best cities for pizza. And it’s no surprise, with so many quality restaurants and hole-in-the-wall local favorites. Best Pizza and Brew is one of Mira Mesa’s best kept secrets.

Their pizza is of the thin-crust variety and is packed with delicious and quality toppings. Aside from their pizza, which you can also buy by the slice (perfect for a quick solo dinner!), they sell other great dishes like flavorful salads and their special Bacon mac’n’cheese. They have lots of craft beers and hard ciders on tap, along with a wine menu. There’s even a small bar area inside. Top off your meal with one of their tasty, fresh-baked cookies.

There isn’t much indoor seating so bring a jacket and grab a spot under the heat lamp! There’s plenty of space for dogs on their patio, too.

The next time you’re in Mira Mesa or craving some great pizza at a good prize, stop by Best Pizza and Brew! You won’t be disappointed.
