Restaurant of the Moment: Aloha Sushi

Aloha Sushi

7731 Fay Avenue

La Jolla, CA 92037

Sushi joints come in all shapes, sizes, and makes. Some are casual, others boisterous, some classy and upscale, and still others are decidedly romantic. Aloha Sushi manages to blend island chill with vacation relaxation and top it all off with a big scoop of the romantic. Whether it’s the charmingly weathered exterior (it’s built into an old house) down to the wood floorboards or the outdoor fire pits and romantic, white cabanas, Aloha Sushi is an experience you don’t want to miss.

And the food’s great, too.

Obviously, the sushi rolls are standouts. The killer shrimp is a veteran’s favorite, with the rock lobster, magic shroom, jalapeno, aloha, and tidal wave rolls also competing for top honors. For appetizers, the sweet potato fries and gyoza are good. From the regular entrees, good bets are blackened ahi tacos, chicken katsu,

They have unique drinks with interesting flavors and names. They also offer a sake taster, which is good if you like sake and want the chance to try a couple to once.

Definitely a great date night or special occasion spot with some solid sushi and island cuisine offerings. Don’t miss in La Jolla!

Note: Service can be slow, so it’s better to go with a smaller party. They also offer catering.
